World Cuisine Tour 2020: Hong Kong

| 06-May-2020 | One evening in December 2015, we randomly texted Norberto: “Hong Kong in March?”.  The response: “I’m in.”  And so goes many of our international adventures; I started planning a week in Hong Kong.  A colleague of Jeff’s recommended Home’s Cooking School as an interesting cultural and culinary adventure. We booked ourselves a market shopping trip followed by a cooking class for homemade Chinese dumplings. You can see more about our day in this post: Four Chefs in a Tiny Kitchen.   You can see more about the Hong Kong trip here.Since that trip, Chinese dumplings have made a fairly regular appearance on our table. We’ve taught friends how to make them; in fact, we carried the essential ingredients through TSA and all the way to Denver one Memorial Day weekend.  TSA found the solid cylinder of dumpling wrappers worthy of closer inspection.

This morning I stopped by Uwajimaya, our local Asian mega-supermarket, and picked up fresh, locally made dumpling wrappers, along with other required ingredients. Not required for the dish, but REQUIRED, Green Tea Kit Kats!

Jeff and I are pretty proficient at filling dumplings now so this meal came together quickly.  After boiling the dumplings, I give them a quick fry, then they’re ready to eat.

We like Rieslings with Asian food; Jeff picked out a German Kabinett to continue the international theme this week.

Since Hong Kong, we’ve done several cooking/foodie themed activities including Casa SaltShaker in Buenos Aires and an asado cooking class in Mendoza.

And speaking of Argentina, check back tomorrow when we meet up with Dan of Casa SaltShaker again for a video cooking class!
