Willkommen in Berlin!

| 04-May-2019 | After the usual trans-atlantic travel shenanigans, SEA -> LHR -> TXL we were wheels down in Berlin at 2:45pm local time on Saturday, and nestled in the back of our town car service transfer to our apartment by 3:30pm. Nice. After dumping our stuff in our quirky-hipster pad at Gorki Apartments, we set out to see what the Mitte neighborhood has to offer. Formerly “East Berlin”, this neighborhood has a mix of ugly Soviet-era housing; new, modern apartments, and lots of local cafés and shops.

Basically nothing is open tomorrow, Sunday, so we’re planning to hit the noteworthy Cold War sites, the East Side Gallery  and take in the local flea market scene.

Evidence that we were in the UK, if only at the airport. We had to take the train between terminals – mind the gap.

Found an awesome little wine shop/bar a few blocks from where we’re staying: Vinothek Berlin. We enjoyed two German wines, a kabinett and a sauvignon blanc. Unfortunately they’re closed on Sunday and Monday, but we’ll probably swing by Tuesday for another round of  German white wines.

Random street scenes around the Mitte neighborhood.

Dinner was “the usual”. We have a tiny kitchen in our apartment so we took advantage of the nearby grocery to stock up on a few of our go-to food items.
