Watch out for the Pokemons!
| 29-Oct-2016 | Woke up this morning to another fabulous looking day. Fueled by the breakfast buffet at our hotel, we set of to walk a bit then take the T-bana north to the neighborhood where Trash Palace is located. Yeah, well, 26,300 steps later … we never did take the metro today. <– This is one of the shopping streets in Gamla Stan at mid-day. Over half these people, adults included, are playing Pokemon Go. It’s insane! |
First stop out of Gamla Stan was City Hall to check on the Dala Horse statue. Two kind of disappointing facts about this side trip – the Dala Horse statue we’d seen our last trip isn’t there anymore, and this cool building isn’t particularly historical: built in 1911. By comparison, the cellar of our hotel dates to 1650. Gorgeous day though. |
Along our walk uptown we wandered into a square with a small farmers market. Several tables were covered with these orange-colored mushrooms. Later I saw a street vendor cooking some up in a wok with onions and spices then serving them in a paper cone. Street food. |
Jeff got in some music shopping today, hitting up Trash Palace and Bengans to pick up some Swedish punk rock vinyl. |
After walking for three hours, and record shopping, we needed lunch. Fortunately I’d pre-scouted for Stockholm’s best burger: Flipping’ Burgers. When we arrived about 10 minutes prior to opening, there was already a line to get in! Their menu is pretty straightforward with only a few selections so despite seating all 10 tables immediately upon opening, we didn’t have to wait long to dig into the deliciousness. Paired with a local lager, Pleepleus approves! |
Beautiful fall colors in the city park. |
Stopped into the liquor store where you have to go to buy beer, wine or liquor. Selected this interesting looking local beer to try this afternoon. We don’t have a fridge in our room so we put them on the window sill to “chill”. 🙂 |
Boots were acquired. These babies are black with tri-color metallic flowers. Definitely unique. And since everything I packed is black or grey, I should get some use out of them right away! 🙂 |
Tapas for dinner at The Hairy Pig deli in Gamla Stan. Tiny little 6-table restaurant in a daylight basement. The charcuterie board included six varieties of salami including truffle and wild boar. The hot cheese melt was fantastic as well. Our 5pm dinner was the end of the weekend “lunch” rush so we had the place to ourselves most of our meal. We chatted with the host/waiter as well as discussed the 90’s Seattle music scene with the chef, who was more than a little knowledgeable and had some strong opinions about Layne Staley. |
Night light. 🙂 Signing off from Stockholm tonight. Catch you all tomorrow for more adventures. |
