“Lazy” Lunes

| 24-Apr-2017 |  So the goal today was to walk less than yesterday. Let’s not talk about how that went, OK …?

We started with no plan other than pastry, juice and coffee for breakfast. I made the coffee while the guys went out for pastry and OJ.

Breakfast secured, we figured we needed to move on to Step 2 of our day..

Enter Jardín Japonés de Buenos Aires. Japanese garden – yeah, sure, we’ve all been to Japan but whatever, let’s check it out.

Koi pond? Check.
Manicured everything? Check.
Piped-in-music? Check. What? Yes, but should be No.

Once we’re out, we just keep walking.  After the Japanese Garden we thought, hey, let’s go see the water… Rio de la Plata. Essentially, the river dumps out into this massive bay that eventually becomes the Atlantic.  Since the city is separated from the water by the domestic airport  in this area, there wasn’t much going on along the promenade.

We stopped at a food truck along the waterfront for sausage sandwiches – Chorípan. Food was good and we “discovered” Rata Blanca – an 80’s-esque hair metal band that the guys were blasting on the stereo while they worked.

From our lunch vantage point, we’re about 26 miles from Uruguay

Let’s talk for a minute about dog-walkers. It’s a thing here – people with 10+ dogs going to the park, playing with the dogs then tethering them to trees or whatever is handy for their “outdoor time”. Dogs are HUGE here in BA. Unfortunately, dog poop is a continuous walking hazard ‘cuz no one picks up after the dogs.

Who knows what I’m missing by constantly looking down ….

Back in Palermo Soho,  we hung out in the apartment waiting for the pizza place to open for dinner at 7pm. Finally we decided to go window shopping and kill some time. We ran across Tempo, a local music shop, so stopped in to check for Rata Blanco. Score – they had it! Plus some punk, Attaque 77, that Jeff had been looking for.

For dinner, pizza from Almaden de Pizzas. Takeout, of course, because we have some random Argentinian wines waiting for us.

The red wine is La Ponderosa from Patagonia. Who knew they make wine there? We picked it because it’s got a motorcycle on the label …. yeah, yo hablo marketing.

And it’s a CabFranc-Merlot blend!

The white is a Viognier-Torrontés blend – Torrentes is new to us so we’re giving it a closer look.  This is “research”.

In addition to today’s feature art on the main page, here’s another genius piece … Virgin de Limon … ?
