Friday, Vacation Style
04-Nov-2022 | Woke up to another clear, sunny day here in Reykjavik. Breakfast pastry from nearby Braud & Co. – a must, every trip.
Jeff is off to simulate the local record purveyor economy. Me, I’m going to sit in this sun-filled flat and read a book. Unlike at home, there are zero chores or projects distracting me from just kickin’ it. I’ll be on the couch with coffee.
Headed out to Lucky Records this afternoon to the release party for Revenge of Calculon’s new 7”: Battle Atomic Disco Wow. Performing as a 3-piece this trip, the bass and keytar (!) kicked the funk up to 11. Excellent showing by the UK crew!
Being Friday, of course there was pizza. Hitting up the local wood-fired pizza joint near the flat. We’ve picked up pizza from this location every trip since 2005! Sometimes more than once.
Notable show for the evening, russian girls at Hurra. We saw this project as a solo,,experimental set off-venue in 2019. Tonight’s version was a trio with vocals. Solid set for an appreciative crowd. Getting to the stage area at this venue is a gauntlet of socialising, ZFG patrons standing around in the bar, but once through the crowd, there’s nice little room that we’ve posted up in many times.
We hit Gamla Bio with the intention of staying thru to Ham at midnight, but a couple of uninspiring sets, coupled with winter cold hangover drove us out around 10pm. Too bad, too; we’d scored seats in the balcony area of this old theatre venue, and it’s a great place to see a show.
We’ll see what tomorrow brings!
