Enough with Gothy Intros
| 01-Nov-2012 | Happy Birthday, Mom! Woke to the sound of the rock excavation across the street this morning, commencing promptly at 9:00am. Had some breakfast before heading out for some quick errands. No rain today, but the wind is back with a vengeance. We headed to the Nordic House at noon to stake out a spot for Agent Fresco’s acoustic performance. We haven’t been to this venue before but it’s a short walk to the University campus from the apartment across some nice, though marshy, park land. |
A quick photo op with Arnor of Agent Fresco after the show at the Nordic House. |
A great bar in the lobby of Icelandair Grand Marina hotel. |
Shabazz Palaces and THEE Satisfaction at KEX. Slow start due to some technical difficulties, but once they got started they had a nice hip-hop/soul fusion going that is unique at this festival. I stood right next to Björk for a couple fo minutes at this show! |
Jamie N Commons. Dude has packed a lot of smokes and whiskey into his 22-years to get a gravelly voice that’s perfect for his blues rock. Nice surprise. |
Of Monsters & Men – finally! They’ve been on “the list” for us for three years. Now they’ve broken big in the US and pleasantly lived up to the hype. |
Dude with Yoda back-pack. Seriously? Com’on man! |
Still chilly and very, very windy. That 23mph, that’s fairly consistent, not gusts. Walking back from Harpa, I found an uneven patch of ground (it wasn’t paved, thank you) and a gust of wind at the same time and ended up on my ass. |
Jeff: It was a busy, busy day. I ended up seeing Agent Fresco twice – once at the Nordic House with everyone, where we were able to pick up their limited edition (of 300) acoustic CD, then again at the Grand Marina because the lead singer promised he’d have a vinyl copy of their album with him if I could make it there. Which I did. I’ll go just about anywhere for tough-to-get vinyl. Norberto and I snuck out of one of the sets at Harpa (Iceland’s opera house tonight to go to another room within the building and catch a few songs by the band HAM, arguably the very first heavy metal band in Iceland. We actually ran into the lead singer at the Grand Marina bar earlier in the day (you run into musicians everywhere in Reykjavik). They get credit for the best song intro ever: “This is a song about friendship. And hate.” We are HAM! |
