AM Classics are huge in Copenhagen

| 09-May-2019 | Everywhere we’ve gone today it’s been AM Classics from the 70s and 80s on the muzaks. Every trip has a “soundtrack” and this is it.Sufficiently fueled by the awesome breakfast bar at our hotel, we donned our rain gear and set out. A lot like home, neither the pedestrians nor the cyclists seem particularly bothered by the rain.

First up today was Marimekko. The Finnish brand is somewhat elusive in the US, particularly the more subdued color ways,  but here I was able to pick up one meter each of a cotton and a waxed cotton. Both will likely become bags of some description.I’m on the hunt for textiles here in Copenhagen, so we popped into Flying Tiger of Copenhagen as well, but nothing textile-y.
Next up, Beat Bop Records, where Jeff picked up some Danish heavy metal on vinyl. Rock on.

From there, our route to the next stop conveniently took us past St. Peders Bakari. This little nugget came to our attention via a British travel show we see on TV sometimes called Travel Man. We stopped in for a cappuccino and cinnamon pastry.

Next up, Stoff & Stil, a beautiful shop sewing, knitting and crafting supplies.  I picked up a cool jersey print for a hoodie. I could have selected more, a lot more, but with limited suitcase space, more wasn’t an option.
We forged on to Dorma 21, a shop specializing in techno where Jeff picked up a couple of local records on recommendation from the proprietor. We’re going to have quite the listening party when we get home.

Finally, lunch.  Quite a hike back from the meatpacking district, we walked along some waterways to get away from the busier, though more direct routes, to Halifax.

Stopped in at Illums Bolighus to take in all things Scandinavian.  I wanted to take home ALL THE THINGS. Seriously – housewares, glassware, linens, clothing, accessories …. yes, please!Again, I was looking for textiles to make into other textile-y things – came away with these tea towels that will stay tea towels.

The weather did finally clear up and the rest of the afternoon was quite nice.In fact, it’s now after 8pm and the sky is clear blue. I can see the start of a sunset reflecting on the facade of the Opera House across the canal.

We picked up take-out pizza for dinner. With this huge bay window that opens, and a view of the pier and boat traffic, it seems ridiculous to not sit here and take in the people-watching.
