Welcome to Hong Kong!

IMG_3232|04/05-MAR-2016| Travel day, you know you’re about to get food pics.  🙂   But first, here’s a quick recap of the events of the day.  We left Seattle at 9am for a 32 minute hopper flight to Vancouver.  When we decided to come to Hong Kong, I knew I wanted to take Hong Kong’s flagship carrier Cathay Pacific and they don’t fly from Seattle.  After a late breakfast in Vancouver, and several laps around their very nice international terminal, we boarded CX837 for the 13 hour trip Hong Kong.

I completely forgot how HUGE B777s are. HUGE.  And the flight wasn’t full so the back third of the plane had pretty much every middle seat empty (3-3-3 configuration). The service was excellent, as expected, including two very nice meals and an open snack bar with water and juices throughout the flight. We arrived in Hong Kong about 20 minutes early which we then used to hike to the main terminal for immigration and baggage claim.  This airport is expansive. First bags onto the belt (for once) then we easily secured train tickets for the quick ride to the city. It was dark already and when we weren’t in tunnels we could see some of the high-rises that Hong Kong is famous for.

Arrived at HK’s central station and transferred to a cab for the final leg of the trip to our apartment in the Causeway Bay neighborhood. Bags dropped in the apartment, we can finally say we arrived. Next stop: food.

Haven’t been on a Horizon Air flight in years.  Outside is branded with the Alaska Air livery, but the inside had the old rust-colored leather seats of Horizon.

An interesting display of “walker” toys from the 30’s.  I hear “walker” and I automatically think  The Walking Dead.

Pleep enjoying his own seat on the flight to Hong Kong. The flight attendants thought he was great! 🙂  Check out his fancy attire for the trip – it is the Year of the Monkey, you know.

We wandered around the packed streets of Causeway Bay. The locals were out enjoying the warm Saturday evening. We stopped into a Japanese taproom, COEDO, for beers and small plates for a late dinner.
