| 07-Nov-2019 | That’s what I’m talkin’ about – proper pastries and crusty rolls from Brauð and Co. A MUST every trip – usually more than once. The pastries are decadently buttery and sweet, but not too sweet. The crusty rolls are dense on the outside, slightly sour and chewy on the side. Pure carb perfection. |
RED PANTS MAFIA.
Stepping out in our “European” red pants today. There are varying opinions about how, when and where one wears red pants but Jeff, Andy and I shut down the critics and went all in.

Ah, Noodle Station. Spicy, noodle goodness hits the spot. |
Foreign Monkeys!
I bought their debut CD, π, at our first Airwaves in 2009 and have been wanting to see this band ever since, but they haven’t played Airwaves in years.
They put out a new album earlier this year so we were hoping to see them on the schedule in 2019. They played a 40 minute off-venue set at Jörgensen Kitchen & Bar this afternoon that was well-attended but not stupid-packed. We’d arrived early and were able to secure a table with a good view.
They did not disappoint – loud and heavy! |
We headed out to Gaukurrín early this evening to catch Blöðmör, a heavy metal trio that Jeff became familiar with through the Life in the Vinyl Lane blog.
Though quite young, the band is talented and shredded their way through 40 minutes with hair flying. Pure metal goodness. 🤘🏻 |
Next up: Kontinuum. We’ve seen these guys a bunch of times over the years. Solid metal.
Gaukurrín upgraded their sound system a few years ago and it no longer blows your ears out; hopefully they’ll upgrade the lighting next because it still sucks. And even if the lighting is good, red is never the right choice. We have 10 years of band pictures with crappy red lighting to prove it. |
Bounced from Gaukurrín over to Gamla Bió to check out an electro-jazz duo from Brussels, Glass Museum. Drums, electric piano, a little techno, and a lot of synergy make this work. Every Airwaves has a couple of new-to-us bands that have our heads bobbing and feet tapping from the first song. This was one of those bands. |
