Dinner with Ingvar

| 31-Oct-2012 | Went to bed stupid-early last night after being up 30+ straight hours. The guys were up for an hour or so around midnight and confirmed Tristen’s departure from Boston. Thank you Icelandair!! Alarm went off this morning and FI630 from Boston was due in at 6:30am as planned. Ninety minutes later we trotted up the street from the apartment to meet with Tristen as he hopped off the FlyBus shuttle. Wooohooo!! After a quick loop through town, dogs at Baejarins bertu pylsur before heading back to the apartment to drop Tristen off for a nap.

Holly: Snow flurries again this morning. We ducked into a cafe for a cup of coffee while we waited for the Airwaves Media Center to open so we could pick up Tristen’s wristband.

Sun Voyager, again I know, but look at the blue sky that emerged and the snow-dusted hills across the bay.

Holly:  Random street art – Iceland constructed of fragments of mirror – on the side of the building on our way to Lucky Records to confirm tonight’s dinner plans with our host, Ingvar.

Holly: We started our Airwaves 2012 experience off-venue at “Inspired by Iceland: the smallest Airwaves venue”. It’s a shipping container converted to a living room – it’s the red thing in the middle with the grass roof. Tilbury was set up inside and the show was broadcast into the square with video on-screen outside a nearby hotel. Great little 4-song set. Only thing missing was a little snow flurry!

Jeff:  Here we are the big screen in the square. This picture does not convey how seriously cold it was.  Seriously.  Cold.

Ingvar from Lucky Records, and his wife Mumbi,  invited our crew to his home to have dinner with his family this evening. Mumbi prepared a lovely spread of roasted pork, sweet potatoes, salad and dessert. It was fantastic.

It was really special to have someone invite us into their home, and we had a great time.

Tonight’s venue, Gamli Gaukurinn, hosted RetRoBot, Lockerbie, Hellivar, Legend and Agent Fresco.  You’ll notice  a band you’ve seen here before – Agent Fresco. Ah-maz-ing! The energy, generosity and appreciation of this band is so intense. You leave their show exhausted and wired. We’re seeing them again tomorrow, acoustic this time, at Nordic House.
