32F, Feels Like 19F

| 30-Oct-2012 | Left Sea-Tac on-time Monday afternoon (exit row seats for all three of us – boo ya!), but after watching the news in the waiting area we’re anxious for Tristen’s pending travel from Minneapolis on Tuesday. We know he got on his flight to Boston, so we’ll see. We’ll get a go/no-go email from Logan and hopefully an “I’m in Iceland” (courtesy of FlyBus’ new onboard wifi!).

Arrived at KEF about 20 minutes early, passed through Passport Control, baggage claim, duty free and the ATM in record time and were on the FlyBus by 6:45am. Such effortless travel would be much appreciated elsewhere, but in Reykjavik, it’s tough to get a cuppa joe before 8:00am so there’s no hurry.

Luckily our favorite bakery, Sandholt, opens “early” (read 7:30am) so we did get pastry and cappuccino. We waited in crazy wind, but no rain, for a respectable 9:00am, before calling for keys to the apartment. Dropped our bags and set off to see what’s up in Reykjavik.

“Sweet Italian Footwear” 2012 style. These babies are MANASDesign, same as last year’s purple boots – though these not selected by Jeff. Great score considering my “criteria” (such that it was) included buckles, and a distressed finish, possibly grey.
Europe loves it some vinyl, and Iceland is no exception.  We picked up about a dozen LPs, plus a handful of 12” and 7” disks on the first day of the trip.  Most of it came courtesy of Lucky Records (who threw in a store t-shirt and a CD!), with a few others coming from Bad Taste Records and 12 Tonar, two local record labels that also have retails shops.  Note in particular the fantastic pink vinyl on the Berndsen album.

Walked out of the store to a snow flurry! Heading back to the apartment I could see the snow cloud rolling off the water and over the city.  Note the wind at 23mph!! At one point Jeff and I were literally blown off the curb by a rogue gust of wind. Note to self: stand back from the edge when waiting to cross with the light.

Not sure what the tourist shop is going for here … there are no bears in Iceland! Don’t tell these guys that – at sidewalk-level, they look like they’re considering your ankles are a tasty lunch!

Obligatory pizza picture, with a couple of local brews. Delicious!  It’s 5pm … I’m not sure how much longer we’re going to make it today. Sooooo glad we don’t have to fight our way through a show tonight. Coming out a day early was GENIUS!
