IKEA is Swedish

| 28-May-2012|  I see IKEA bags, everything in this apartment is IKEA, yet I haven’t seen an IKEA.

We started our day at Kungliga Myntkabinettet, the Royal Coin Cabinet. The collection of coins dating back to 625 BC was voluminous and impressive.  The collection is not limited to coins, we also saw the evolution of bank notes, the development of banking systems, and a collection of piggy-banks.

After the museum we zig-zagged our way back to the Hard Rock Cafe to pick up a Stockholm pin and get some lunch.  After excellent burgers, and with pin in hand, we hiked a few more blocks to a local Vespa dealer that was recommended on the Modern Vespa forum as being a cool stop. It was indeed! Great apparel and tons of old skool Vespa memorabilia. Unfortunately nothing branded with “Stockholm” so we forged on. We made our way back to city center on streets we hadn’t previously walked and ended up at one of the many city parks. We stopped for espresso and watched people for a while.  After some final shopping, we went to Nostrano for dinner. Excellent choice!

This trip went by so quickly! They all do. Thanks for following along. 🙂

We saw this scooter daily in various parts of the city. It’s distinctive, though that doesn’t translate well in the picture. We’ve seen a number of scooters, both here and in Helsinki, that had motorcycle handle bars.

Pleepleus enjoying a cheeseburger at the Hard Rock Cafe. It was closed when we stopped by on Friday but today’s schedule was wide open so we trekked back to pick up a pin for Holly’s mom.

Stopped in again at 19 Glas in Gamla Stan. Despite the windy weather, we enjoyed a glass of Spanish red wine at an outside table.

Enjoyed the final dinner of the trip at a nearby Italian restaurant, Nostrano. Tiny little place, excellent food. Stockholm is a total win – I suspect we’ll be back!
