Airwaves 2017 – Day 5

 | 05-Nov-2017 | Late night means late morning.  Jeff, Berto and I rolled out of the apartment around lunchtime headed for Noodle Station.  Always an arrival or departure meal, I missed it earlier this trip so now’s my chance. They’ve moved again, to yet another larger location, but the noodles haven’t changed. Hot, spicy and tasty, as always.

We have so many Noodle Station pictures it should have its own tag/category!

Next door to the new location is Hlemmur Mathöll, formerly the bus station. The renovated space features ten cafes and bistro bars similar to ones we’ve visited in Stockholm and Oslo.  We stopped in for coffee before heading to Lucky to pick up Jeff’s bag that Ingvar borrowed when he was in Seattle last month.

A big storm is rolling in off the North Sea today and it’s coming with a vengeance.  The snow flurries from earlier have transitioned to high winds and heavy rain.  The Airwaves app keeps providing weather updates and encouraging festival-goers to pick a venue and hunker down.

We’ve opted to stay in tonight; the line-up isn’t very strong, there are only two venues and the weather is vicious.

So there it is – Airwaves 2017. Though my trip was abbreviated from prior years, I did manage to see 25 or so shows, catch up with a few friends, and connect with a few new ones. And discover some new music. And that my friends, is why we keep coming back.

Until next time …. eat well, travel often.
