Totes Aurora!

IMG_1729|03-NOV-2015|  Travel day. Woke up this morning to rain in Paris – we totally lucked out with the warm sunshine these past few days. In November! 🙂

Made quick time to CDG, even with the Paris traffic, then awaited our flight to Reykjavik.

The uneventful 3 hour flight landed us in an unexpectedly bright, and calm afternoon at Keflavik airport. We could see the departing storm headed out to the North Sea – a long grey cloud with dark fringes of rain. Arrived at the apartment at about 5:15pm – met up with Berto and walked down to Harpa for our wristbands.  After the usual first night pizza (I’ll spare you the picture!) we’ll head to Lucky Records to meet up with friends and some live music.

On the way to Lucky we were treated with some good views of the Northern Lights considering the city street lights and apartments lining the walk. During a break it the music at Ingvar’s we walked down to the water to see if the viewing was better. It was outstanding – best we’ve seen here (mind you, we’ve seen the Northern Lights only twice before).

Evidence that we are indeed on the ground in Reykjavik: Thule, licorice, Harpa and wristband

Festival starts tomorrow!

Lucky Records has a stage now and is hosting off-venue for 6 days during Airwaves – 6 to 8 shows a day! Tonight we caught sets from Otto Man and Stafænn Häkon. Nice turnout too – there was constant flow of people in and out of the shop but probably 50 – 75 fairly consistently packing the available space during the set.

The Northern Lights seen over the bay tonight. There was some cloud cover which made for some interesting “texture” though too subtle to capture with an iPhone.

I was reading the Wikipedia entry on the Aurora Borealis to the guys and now they’re stuck on “magnetospheric plasma” … look it up.

Good stuff.
