Welcome to Tokyo!

P1000675| 06-May-2014 | We left Seattle at 1:15pm on Monday, bound for Tokyo/Narita aboard an ANA B787-8 aircraft. Let’s just say the Dreamliner is pretty damn cool, and coupled with ANA’s lovely service it was a very pleasant flight – if one can say that about spending the better part of 9 hours on a plane.

The 5-level dimming feature on the windows was particularly nice for those of us who like a window seat *and* it’s light the entire trip – not that there was much to see but still – it beats pulling a shade and getting a total black out.

Arrived on time in Narita, got our bags and hit the Skyliner train for a 40 minute ride to Ueno Station. After a few dizzying first steps onto the busy Tokyo sidewalk, we got our bearings and wound around the park to the residential side. As we’d read, the building numbering here is random and rarely posted.  With help from a friendly local, we located our building and awaited the arrival of our host.

Our tiny apartment is on the 22nd floor of a building that opened in 2013. It’s square-meterage challenged, but well appointed with at least a 180-degree view of the Tokyo skyline. Stunning!

We walked over to the Asahi Brewery this evening for a local brew. Now for some sleep and we’ll see what tomorrow has in store for us!
