Welcome back to Osaka!

| 18.Apr.2023 | First full day back in Osaka and it feels familiar! After arriving last night we walked over to Yellow Ape’s bottle shop location for a late night pint and snack. The small four cheese pizza hit the spot, and we learned that a drizzle of honey pairs perfectly with the tangy Gorgonzola.

The jet-lag gods made sure we were up early, so we decided to visit a to a new-to-us spot: Kuromon Market. Given the time of day – morning commute – we opted to walk rather than wade into the subway traffic. Our path covered the shopping arcade and narrow side streets of Shinsaibashi and Dontonbori.

Dating back to the early 1820s, Kuromon Market is primarily meat, fish and produce vendors. At 9:30am they were doing a brisk trade in yakitori. We shared a Kobe beef skewer and Jeff tried the scallops cooked in butter.

After the market we found our way back to Tower Records in Umeda. It seems so weird now to be in a store that is predominately CDs, Jeff found a few goodies plus some vinyl at Vox Records, and unexpected find in the same building.

After a later afternoon break, we went back out to Craft Beer Works Kamikaze. I’d been to this tiny restaurant/taproom on my first visit to Osaka, but missed it when Jeff and I came back in 2018.  Anyway, it’s still here and we enjoyed a dinner of small plates. And beer.023

Looking at the pictures, we did nothing but eat today. And walk over 15 miles to do so. wrapping up the evening with yellow-label Suntory whiskey – our local fave.

For relaxing times, make it Suntory time.
